Aloe vera is native to Africa. From ancient times the plant has been used in treating swellings, burns, infections and parasites. There are over 500 species of aloe growing in different climates worldwide. Aloe vera recognized properties include:

aloe vera Extensive research has shown that the gel has an impressive ability to heal wounds, ulcers and burns speeding up the healing rate. A newly discovered compound in aloe is currently being studied for its ability to strengthen the body's natural resistance. Studies have shown this compound to boost T-lymphocyte cells that aid the immune system.

dry scaly skin The plant contains active ingredients including essential oils, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, enzymes and glycoproteins. As a food supplement, aloe is said to facilitate digestion, aid in blood and lymphatic circulation, as well as kidney, liver and gall bladder functions.

Psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, aging skin Aloe contains at least three anti-inflammatory fatty acids that are helpful for the skin. It reduces inflammation, and redness, and accelerate wound healing. It can aid in keeping the skin elastic, and has been used in the control of acne and eczema. It can relieve itching due to insect bites and allergies. Aloe has a moisturizing effect on the skin and is a common remedy for sunburn and skin irritation. It is often used direct on the skin in the treatment of minor burns and wounds. At least in one scientific study Aloe vera was shown to be effective in treating psoriasis.
